IBM: Quantum Music

Imagine music born from the very fabric of quantum mechanics. This project, a collaboration between Valerie Lin, Allon Goldberg, Ege Uz, and Shawn Zhang, guided by Lin Zhou, Sven Travis, and James Weaver, explores the uncharted territory where quantum computing meets musical composition. Using Python and Qiskit, we've harnessed the power of superposition, entanglement, and interference to craft sonic experiences that transcend traditional boundaries. Step into a world where quantum algorithms shape melodies, and discover the future of experimental music.

TAMED

This project explores the areas of emotional delivery, spiritual healing, human behavior observation, and visual effects communication. This experience was mainly created for myself to understand my range of emotion as changes occur as well as to search for new ways to subconsciously heal my feelings before I noticed them. The machine was used to observe my outfit choices I made unconsciously, in order to tame an unexisting consciousness to calm the feelings that I would be facing at the start of each day. The final outcome of this project is a “tamed quote” that relates to the colors I wore on certain days that correspond to the diary entries.

Jo Malon: Visualizing Scents

Translating abstract olfactory concepts into compelling visual experiences is a key challenge in product design. Our approach embraces innovative visual strategies, including abstract representations utilizing color gradients, particle effects, and dynamic shapes to effectively convey nuanced scent profiles.

For an even deeper immersion, we explore mixed reality and virtual reality applications. These technologies enable the creation of multi-sensory environments where realistic visuals are seamlessly integrated with precisely timed scent delivery, offering an unparalleled user experience.

Moreover, we strategically employ olfaction to elicit specific emotional responses. By carefully selecting scents with established emotional associations—such as lavender for relaxation or citrus for invigoration—and harmonizing them with dynamic visuals, we design powerful, emotionally resonant user journeys.

Estee Lauder: Easing Her Journey

A pop-up exhibition has been created at the airport to provide travelers with a space to rest and learn about skincare. This space serves as a way to recharge before embarking on their journey, while also providing valuable information on how to take care of their skin. Additionally, travelers will receive a meaningful bonus upon completion of their journey.

WHAT DO WE KNOW WHAT WE KNOW

Language is the main method of human communication. It can be any medium for individuals to convey their feelings. It is hard to trace back when and where people started to structure spoken and written behavior. However, due to the growing number of people across the globe it is inevitable that these specific systems are only used by a particular country or community. As there are a huge amount of people around the world connected with different languages, it is not uncommon for wording and meaning to be lost because of culture, personal experiences, or personal interpretations. When communicating between two speakers of other languages, the importance of the associated emotion if frequently lost when interpreting a word to describe feelings. Moreover, while all the languages are formed by different systems, we must ask ourselves how can humans deliver feelings when there is no corresponding term in the target language. What do people all over the world do to adapt when words cannot be translated across languages? This research paper is exploring the future communication method between humans to understand how transmedia and immersive storytelling can be self-expressive and how well it will impact and create an experience to interpret emotions by researching the barriers within and without language.

INVISIABLE ESSENTIAL

This project explores the boundaries between machines and an organism in the form of the human body in an attempt to answer the question: Is it possible to describe fashion technology as a cyborg?

Invisible Essential is a project that is testing the possibility of future wearable technology. By stitching sensors onto fabrics, the designers not only create an aesthetic value but also a functional circuit. I am imagining the future when e-textiles merge into the fashion industry. We should ask ourselves if the wearables that we are creating now is pioneering the idea of a cyborg.
